Testimonial 1
“From the very beginning I knew that Andrew understood my needs and those of our organization. His previous experience as a CEO was invaluable in understanding our organization and potential issues. Andrew brings a wealth of evidence and reality to planning and discussion which helps make issues ‘real’ for participants. Andrew is quickly able to distil many issues and create an appropriate plan of action. Andrew’s enthusiasm is infectious and inspires others to want to be involved in the work. He is excellent at identifying areas where progress is slowing and if appropriate, stepping in to assist.” (Ian Thompson, CEO, British Association of Public Safety Communications Officers)

Speaker's Bureau Information

Speaker Bio
A former association chief executive, for 15 years Andrew held c-suite positions in non-profit and third sector bodies across the UK. Since 2016 he has worked as a specialist in non-profit leadership, working internationally to provide expert support in leadership development, business strategy, and good governance. With a proven pedigree in understanding and maximizing business dynamics, engagement, and growth, he volunteers as the Executive Director of the Institute of Association Leadership; is the founder of the Cambridge Governance Symposium; the author of the NETpositive Governance™ model; editor of the IAL Almanac; co-author of "compass: the systems map for association leadership"; and is co-host of the transatlantic podcast Association Transformation.
Topic 1
The contemporary dimensions of modern non-profit leadership.
Topic 1 Description
Non-profits are working harder than ever to define and deliver their value proposition within increasingly complicated environments. In these uncertain times all non-profit leaders must understand and adopt fresh approaches to modern leadership. Andrew explores and explains how to identify, embrace, and capitalize on the characteristics of contemporary leadership to realize long-term impacts.
Topic 2
The bottleneck of human thought: Non-profits and the attention economy
Topic 2 Description
When he defined the concept of "attention economics" in 1971, Nobel Laureate Herbert A. Simon wrote that ".a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention...". 50 vears later, and in a data-rich world, the overwhelming wealth of information available to us means a dearth of something else, i.e. the scarcity of whatever it is that information consumes - our attention. In this session, Andrew defines the concept and leads an exploration on how non-profit
leadership teams need to understand, respond to, and flourish within the attention economy.
Topic 3
The professional privilege of generative governance
Topic 3 Description
Non-profit governance is often viewed as a burden, interpreted as somewhat of a poisoned chalice, with the kudos of a board position offset by the challenges of decision-making and the weight of responsibility for the success (or otherwise) of an organisation. But it is an exciting time to lead a non-profit and governance represents one of the most exciting components of non-profit leadership. Engaging in creative discussion, adding specialist insights, contributing professional expertise, and supporting the long-term sustainability of the organisation is not a burden and Andrew explains how it can and should be welcomed as a professional privilege, one that people should be clambering to enjoy.
